The biblical holiday known as Purim arrived at sundown on March 13 and ended at sundown March 14, 2025. This year the holiday coincided with a total lunar eclipse, also known as a blood moon. I stayed up to watch this amazing sight, observing the moon as it went from appearing like a bright light to a dark, deep orange-red sphere.

A photo of the blood moon from my phone camera. Not the best quality, but you can still see it.

Interestingly enough, another total lunar eclipse (blood moon) will happen on Purim again next year on March 2, 2026. Many would say this is just a coincidence. Perhaps so, but for me, it opened my heart to pray more fervently for the Jewish people.

Purim is a biblical Jewish holiday that is observed every year. Messianic Bible explains, “Unlike the other Holy Days of the Lord, the command to celebrate this festival isn’t found in chapter 23 of Leviticus.  What’s more, the command to celebrate this special holiday doesn’t come from God, but from Mordechai, the hero of Esther. He commanded the celebration of the salvation of the Jewish People in ancient Persia from Haman’s plot to annihilate all the Jews in a single day.”

“Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the Jews throughout the provinces of King Xerxes, near and far, to have them celebrate annually the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month of Adar as the time when the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month when their sorrow was turned into joy and their mourning into a day of celebration.”  (Esther 9:20-22)

The story of Haman’s plot to kill all the Jews is found in the Book of Esther in the Bible. To this day, the Jews celebrate Purim as a reminder that their people were almost wiped out by an evil man named Haman, who wanted their entire race exterminated.

Of course, as the Book of Esther notes, Haman was not successful in his plan to annihilate all the Jews in Shushan, Persia. The tables were turned on him when Queen Esther fasted, appealing to God for help. Even though the name “God” isn’t used in the book of Esther, it’s obvious when reading the story that when Esther fasted, she would have prayed to the God of the Jewish people–– who is none other than the God of the Bible.

15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish,” Esther 4:15-16.

Esther herself was Jewish and raised by her Jewish cousin Mordechai. As an observant Jew, he taught her about God. Fasting and praying was an integral part of Jewish religious customs. When someone was in trouble, or in need of major help from the Almighty, the first thing one would do is fast and pray.

The fasting and praying worked! In the end, Haman is the one who ends up being executed, along with his family. In essence, he reaped what he sowed. Haman had a horrible hatred for the Jews, but he was punished with a death sentence on his own head.

The Spirit of Haman Still Lives in this World

Each year when the Jews celebrate Purim, they are reminded that there will always be “Hamans” in the world who want to wipe them out. Never fear though, because God is sovereign and he will never let those with the spirit of Haman to exterminate His people. But make no mistake, there are millions of Hamans in every nation and they are trying to re-enact the story of Esther in modern times!

October 7, 2023 Was an Edict to Wipe the Jews Out

As I observed the moon transforming into a reddish color on Purim this year, I couldn’t help but remember what happened on October 7, 2023. On that dreadful day, at least 1,200 Jewish people were brutally and savagely murdered by Hamas when they invaded Israel (the word Hamas means violence and the word itself is just one letter away from Haman). Their goal was to spill the blood of the Jewish people. The truth is that they were hoping to kill many more. In their quest for Jewish blood, these monsters took hundreds of hostages back to Gaza. Along the way, they raped, maimed and humiliated anyone in their path.

How Can Anyone Support Terror and Murder?

I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that there are people in our own country who support Hamas instead of Israel. They claim Israel is committing genocide on the “Palestinians” of Gaza. They erroneously compare the deaths of “Palestinians” with the horrific deaths that took place during the Holocaust. This comparison is ludicrous.

If one actually studies the history of Gaza and what has been taking place since 2005 —(this is when the “Palestinians” were given the land by Israel in exchange for “peace”)— one would see that Hamas and its followers have been firing rockets at Israel from day one, and from that point on, they never stopped. Sadly, Israel has received no peace since it gave the land to people who want nothing more than the deaths of Jews. You can’t negotiate with people who want you to die!

Watch these videos for more info— Link1, Link2, Link 3.  I also suggest you read a blog I wrote back in October 2023 as well—Link here.

All one needs to do is read the charter of Hamas which calls for the unequivocal death of the Jewish people and declares that a Jewish state has no right to exist. When protesters and Palestinians shout and sing, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free,” what they are saying is that from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, the Jews must be wiped out.

Olivier Melnick, founder of Shalom in Messiah Ministries, writes on his website:

“The Holocaust and the Death Camps are being mentioned regularly, not in an attempt to deny their existence–a positive in and of itself–but to compare current events to the most horrific genocide in the history of mankind. This has to stop!

Israel has been repeatedly accused of committing genocide in Gaza. Within a week or less after October 7, 2023, soon after the world initially expressed concern and sadness about the Hamas invasion of southern Israel, the narrative started to change, and it shifted very quickly toward accusing Israel of killing innocent Palestinians at a genocidal level.

Nobody agrees on what constitutes genocide by numbers. Some will argue that 25% or more of a people group has to be destroyed to constitute genocide, but it is unclear., The UN Genocide Convention states: ‘any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.’

Olivier continues,

“In other words, numbers are not necessarily taken into consideration, but the keyword here is intent. In the case of Israel, if numbers were taken into consideration, the 25% death toll would not be reached by a long shot. Measured by intent, Israel is even in a better place as the Jewish state has gone above and beyond to protect and save lives. Israel’s moves against Hamas or other terrorists go against conventional warfare in so many ways. The IDF always warns civilians of impending attacks on buildings or neighborhoods with ample time for people to vacate. It is Hamas that keeps people in. Who is committing genocide now?

But it is not just Israel; America under Trump is also accused of all kinds of ills connecting President Trump and his administration to a neo-Nazi methodology and a neo-Holocaust agenda. Before anyone attempts to describe contemporary decisions, events, and executive orders as Nazi or Holocaust-related, please see if these events include any of the following criteria:
• Forced labor
• Starvation
• Electrified fences
• Beatings
• Torture
• Random Shootings
• Tattooed identification number
• No bathrooms
• Firing squads
• Diseases
• No doctors

And that is only a few of the elements you would find in Nazi concentration camps. These camps were designed to corral Jews in large numbers and create a war, forced-labor contingency. The work conditions and lack of food and hygiene were such that they quickly became death camps, and that is even before the full implementation of the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question” with the running of places like Auschwitz-Birkenau. When the death camps were implemented, you could add these to the list:
• Mass shooting in Jewish-dug communal graves
• Gas chambers
• Crematoria
• Gruesome experiments on inmates, including babies and pregnant women
• Collecting gold teeth from cadavers
• Long death marches in the snow.”

With the above information, Olivier Melnick is showing us that trying to compare what’s going on in Gaza (and what’s happening with illegal immigration in America) to what happened during the Holocaust is nonsense.

The Hatred Runs Deep

The hard truth is that if Hamas had it their way, they would implement all of what Hitler did to the Jews and more! Sadly, many Arab countries feel the same way and this is why countries like Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Yemen and many others continue funding Hamas, Hezbollah and other terrorist groups who want to murder Jews.

Hamas’ biggest enemy is Israel, but make no mistake, they would do the same thing to Americans. Anyone who does not submit to Islam is considered an infidel and deserves death. Hamas, the Palestinian Authority and residents of Gaza do not shy away from expressing how they really feel about the Jews and westerners who are enemies of Islam. Read this article I wrote for Intercessors for America which explains what happens in the mind of an Islamic terrorist.

If there’s a comparison to be made, we should be calling out the rampant antisemitism that’s happening in the world and understand how it points to a repeat of what led to the Holocaust. As we think about the two blood moons falling on the holiday of Purim in 2025 and 2026, we should take this information to heart and pray about it.

Let’s look at some things that point to the rise in Nazi-like antisemitism. The list that I’ve summarized is from Shalom in Messiah’s website—- the article I summarized is titled NEW ANTISEMITISM—- I have also added some of my own commentary.

Below are six things that happened before and during the Holocaust years. We are seeing these six things reappearing in modern day life….

  • Boycotts: During the 1930’s there were boycotts of Jewish businesses and violence committed against Jewish business owners—these boycotts got progressively worse until Jews were not allowed to own businesses at all.
  • Flash forward to today and we see that in 2005—(the same year Israel gave the Gaza Strip to the Palestinians), the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement began encouraging countries around the world to stop buying Israeli products. This movement continues to this day. Social media influencers and Hollywood stars try to use their platforms and status to tell people to stop buying goods and services from Israel.
  • Pogroms: In the late 1880’s and on through the Holocaust era, there were government-sponsored riots against the Jews of Eastern Europe, known as pogroms. During these riots, Jews were beaten and killed. The police did nothing to stop pogroms and in some cases, even helped the rioters. The only option was to flee the area, which is what most Jews tried to do. Oftentimes, they were forced to leave their homes and settle in a new country.
  • Nowadays, “we are starting to see riots against Jewish people develop around the world for no other reason than these people being Jewish. There was a pogrom in an airport in Dagestan, Russia at the end of October 2023, where mostly Muslim people were running after Jews who had just landed from a Tel Aviv flight. Then, there was the recent pogrom in Los Angeles last June when the police did nothing to help the Jewish victims being attacked in front of their synagogue.”
  • Academic Pressure: In the years leading up to the Holocaust, there was a huge push to remove all Jews from German universities. Eventually, the “Aryanization” of Germany demanded that no Jews could be educated at any age.
  • Since October 7, even in the United States, we witnessed protests happening at universities where students condemned Israel and the Jews instead of Hamas. Young Jewish people became afraid to attend classes and many were bullied by these Jewish hating protesters. Many universities became breeding grounds for antisemitism. Prestigious colleges such as Columbia, Harvard and Yale are no longer places where Jews are welcome.
  • Killing Jews—- Many Jews died in the ghettos and concentration camps during the Holocaust years. Whether it was gas chambers, starvation, forced work camps, torture, or shootings, the goal was to kill Jews. Hitler and his Nazi regime were not condemned publicly around the world for this during the war. Yes, they were condemned for invading nations and taking them over, but the brutal treatment of the Jews wasn’t given much press. Of course, there were even American businesses who were supporting Hitler’s war efforts (read this article: IBM and the Holocaust: The Shocking Connection). All the while, the murder of Jews was being ignored and many people in other countries didn’t know the extent of the atrocities that were happening.
  • October 7 unleashed a barrage of killings that most of the world did not condemn. Over 1,200 people were killed by Hamas and the Palestinians who cooperated with them. Instead of calling out the murderers for who they are, the victims (the Jews) were blamed. This still continues to this day. The legacy media focuses on the deaths of the Palestinians (which is at the hands of their own corrupt government/Hamas) and blames Israel. The Israeli hostages being held by Hamas were tortured, starved, raped and mistreated. But the world ignores this and instead keeps focusing on “justice for the Palestinians.” Meanwhile, the death cult of Hamas, which seeks to kill all Jews, is ignored and even supported.
  • The Jewish Denial — In the 1930’s and early 1940’s many Jews did not believe they would be targeted for extermination. Even though the signs were right in front of their eyes, they could not see the future plan of the Nazis. By the time they understood what “the Final Solution” meant, it was too late.
  • Even today, after all the threats and atrocities committed around the world against Jews, many do not see the impending danger. Some see the Palestinians as a persecuted people and believe the lies behind social justice. Instead of seeing Islam as a threat to their lives, some believe they need to accept it and even promote it. This is also the case for non-Jews, who have fallen prey to the lies about Israel and the “occupation” of Gaza. They don’t see that their behavior is reminiscent of Nazi sympathizers, who propagated the lie that the Jews were the reason for all the ills of Germany.
  • The World’s Indifference—-When Nazism rose in the 1930’s and 40’s, the world sat back and did nothing. As Jews were being mistreated, placed in ghettos and eventually in death camps, the majority of people became co-perpetrators or bystanders. This allowed Hitler’s plan to go forth unchecked.
  • Today, the same thing is happening. As Hamas, Hezbollah and their proxies fire rockets at Israel on a daily basis, the world seems unfazed. Even when Iran fired over 200 drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles directly at Israel in April 2024, there wasn’t widespread condemnation of the country that launched the attack! Much of the world just watches as it unfolds, not caring that millions of Jewish people (and Arabs) in Israel could be killed. There isn’t widespread sympathy for the Jewish people. Instead, the protests and indifference continues.

The Bible tells us that one day the Antichrist will try to kill all of the Jewish people. We must understand that this spirit is with us today! As Christians who follow and love a Jewish Messiah, Jesus Christ, we must always stand in the gap for our Jewish brothers and sisters. Antisemitism is going to continue to rise as we get closer to the return of Jesus. We cannot just sit by idly and watch it all unfold.

The fact that there are two blood moons occurring on Purim two years in a row is a big reminder for all of us that we cannot let the blood of our Jewish brethren to be spilled on our watch. After all, we are watchmen on the wall for Israel.

Isaiah 62:1 and 6-7 say:

For Zion’s sake I will not be silent,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet,
Until her righteousness and vindication go forth as brightness,
And her salvation goes forth like a burning torch…

On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed and stationed watchmen,
Who will never keep silent day or night;
You who profess the Lord, take no rest for yourselves,

And give Him no rest [from your prayers] until He establishes Jerusalem
And makes her a praise on the earth.

As Christians we are called to pray for the Jewish people and for their homeland Israel. We are to defend them against attacks of antisemitism and educate our family, friends, and neighbors about God’s plan for the Jews. We should never be like the Hamans of the world who seek to discredit, disparage and declare death over them. If we choose to do this, like Haman, Hamas and the many enemies of Israel, we will reap what we sow.

Here is an article posted by CBN about the blood moons. There’s also a blood moon happening near Rosh Hashanah this year.

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on September 22, 2025, while the blood moon happens on September 7, 2025.

The Book of Esther never mentions any names of God, the Torah (Law of Moses), the Temple, the sacrificial system, or Jerusalem.  But if you read the story of Esther and the miraculous way the Jews were saved from certain death, you quickly realize that God’s hand is all over it! He is the one who allowed Esther to be the King’s wife for “such a time as this.” He is the one who listened to Esther’s prayers and gave her the favor she needed to speak to the King. He is the one who made sure that Haman would be punished for his hatred of the Jews.

Chuck Swindoll says, “Esther is the only book in the Bible not to mention the name of God. But that is not to say that God was absent. His presence permeates much of the story, as though He were behind the scenes coordinating ‘coincidences’ and circumstances to make His will happen.”

The Book of Esther shows us the powerful principles that are written in Genesis 12:3. “And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Today’s world is no different than the times of Esther and the King of Persia. God is still working behind the scenes as the enemies of Israel, Jerusalem and the Jewish people plot their deadly schemes. For a time, it may seem like they have the upper hand. BUT THE HAND OF GOD IS MUCH STRONGER— AND LIKE HAMAN, THEIR TIME IS SHORT.

It’s time for the world to get on the right side of history.

HIS STORY—- Jesus’ story— is the one you want to be part of!

Now more than ever, we must pray for the Jewish people and the nation of Israel. Our Jewish Savior spilled His blood for us not so we could sit back and let God’s covenant people perish. He died so we could share the gospel with others and pray for the salvation of Israel.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and pray that the Prince of Peace will return soon.
